Loyalhanna Creek Trip(S)

Loyalhanna Creek

Just meet us at our big red building located at 3253 SR 981, Saltsburg, PA 15681 and let us take care of the rest!

Once you check in, you’ll board one of our walk on Turtle top buses where everything you need to enjoy your float is already loaded for you including your kayak, life vest and paddle. Feel free to pack a small cooler for a snack along the way.

Paddlers of all ages enjoy meandering 8.5 miles along the Loyalhanna Creek starting at Gray Wing Park in New Alexandria and ending at the Loyalhanna Lake. Or a 3-mile trip starting at Mannitto and also ending at the Loyalhanna Lake.  This gently flowing trip provides paddlers with beautiful scenery and a chance to observe nature along the way. Observe Whitetail Deer, Osprey, Great Blue Heron and an occasional Bald Eagle or study the exotic erosion patterns of the sandstone cliffs. Fishing is extremely popular along the Loyalhanna as kayaking gives anglers the ability to reach the many inlets and coves otherwise not accessible via larger, motorized vessels.

The trip ends at the Bush Recreation Area at the Loyalhanna Lake (formed as the backwater of the Loyalhanna Dam built in 1942 as part of the Army Corp Flood Control Act of 1936 and 1938). Feel free to explore the lake or, when ready, a quick phone call will have you on our bus and headed back to your vehicle at our shop conveniently located next to Marshall’s Market where you can grab a snack or a quick bite for the ride home.

This trip allows us to accommodate large gatherings such as church groups, work outings, family reunions and much more. Arrange a picnic or cook out at the pavilion or enjoy a packed lunch at one of the picnic tables. Restrooms are also available next to the nearby campground.

Note: The primary purpose of the Loyalhanna Dam is flood control and is therefore subject to periods of high and low water events. We at Two Dam Kayak Rentals monitor the water conditions very closely in order to ensure the safety of our customers. You too can monitor those conditions using the link to the USGS site provided below.
