Conemaugh River
Just meet us at our big red building located at 3253 SR 981, Saltsburg, PA 15681 and let us take care of the rest!
Once you check in, you’ll board one of our walk on Turtle top buses where everything you need to enjoy your float is already loaded for you including your kayak, life vest and paddle. Feel free to pack a small cooler for a snack along the way.
This 7.5-mile section of the Conemaugh starting at the launch area located just a few hundred yards downstream of the Conemaugh Dam (built in 1952 as part of the Army Corp Flood Control Act of 1936 and 1938) and ending in the small canal town of Saltsburg is some of the most picturesque landscape the river has to offer. Go with the flow and enjoy a gently rolling (no white-water classification whatsoever) lazy river trip through steep cliffs that guide the river along the way. This trip is recommended for all ages and skill levels.
End your trip in the town of Saltsburg where a quick phone call has you on our bus and headed back to your vehicle at our shop conveniently located next to Marshall’s Market where you can grab a snack or a quick bite for the ride home.
Be sure to save some time either before or after your trip to take a quick drive to one of the many attractions the area has to offer. Notable mentions include The Conemaugh Dam and the Tunnelview Historic Site or the town of Saltsburg where the historic Main Line Canal ran directly through on its way from Johnstown to Pittsburgh.
Note: The primary purpose of the Conemaugh Dam is flood control and is therefore subject to periods of high and low water events. We at Two Dam Kayak Rentals monitor the water conditions very closely in order to ensure the safety of our customers. You too can monitor those conditions using the link to the USGS site provided below.
